Take Rocky Mountain Cummins in Salt Lake City, Utah for example. Cummins is a designer and manufacturer of power generation equipment, power systems, gasoline engines, custom power supplies that take many forms. Now as you can imagine, they need a lot of places to store stuff, and so when they approached us to find solutions for… storng the many ‘banker boxes’ that had nowhere else to go. Looking for a solution, they called Jorgenson Material Handling Rep Dave Arbon. “Jorgenson Material Handling has done Rocky Mountain Cummins’ dock levelers. We have done their pallet racking. We have done their parts storage. We have done their parts storage cabinets.

We have done safety equipment, guard rails, lockers, material lockers,” said Arbon. “This is not just a ‘one time’ project; we have done a lot of things in the Rocky Mountain Cummins facility and they consider us a partner, they consider us someone that they can trust and that is why Jorgenson Material Handling is called back to do business with them.” The issue was records–LOTS of records on paper. “Most businesses that supply parts have to keep their records back three years and sometimes seven years so no company wants boxes laying around for seven years haphazardly stuffed in lofts, in their showrooms, in their conference rooms, janitorial closets and anywhere else we’ve seen businesses try and keep these banker boxes,” Arbon explains. “They just want these boxes out of sight and out of those places.“

Dave and the JMH crews knew immediately what the solution would be–a set of strong shelving that was built specifically to hold and store banker boxes–and not only would it be perfect; it would look great.

“It is a very neutral color,” remembers Arbon.  “The 028 Gray color made by Penco Products is very easy on the eyes and you can get these in an open design or a closed design.”

Industrial shelving that Jorgenson Material Handling chose for the project was an open, boltless shelving design.  In other words;

“The open design is less expensive than the closed design, a closed design typically incorporates a back panel and one vertical panel between each unit,” explains Arbon.  “And these shelves are specifically designed for banker boxes.  It will carry and support the weight of boxes of paper and it will also accommodate the size and dimensions of a standard banker box which of course is made to hold paperwork.

Then the JMH crews went one step to assure safety.  “These shelves also had a 3/8 inch anchor put into the floor in the event of an earthquake, these shelves will stand on their own,” said Arbon.  And these shelves are specifically designed for banker boxes.  It will carry and support the weight of boxes of paper and it will also accommodate the size and dimensions of a standard banker box which of course is made to hold paperwork.

Several rows of boltless shelving, back-to-back, were installed by JMH crews and since each shelf fits four boxes, that took care of 96 boxes with plenty more room on the top shelf!  Rocky Mountain Cummins couldn’t be happier with the job the Jorgenson Material Handling crews chose, and installed.

“Jorgenson Material Handling got those banker boxes out of their offices, out of their closets and basically out of their spaces and created one location where they could store those banker boxes that was easily accessible and was out of the way of normal business operations,” said Arbon.
