Mezzanines: Save Money AND Get More Storage Space in Your Facility

As time goes on and your business evolves, you may find that you’ve outgrown your distribution center, parts department or warehouse that you were sure would hold all of your inventory and/or staff from now until the end of time. :) Mezzanines are an easy and affordable solution that allow you to almost double your storage or work space without having to add on to your building!

Mezzanines are steel structures that serve as secondary floors between the existing floors of your facility, transforming previously wasted vertical space into extra space for more storage or workstations. They are designed to work around the existing layout of your building, matching its exact area, height and load requirements.

“The companies [we’ve] installed a mezzanine for, we’ve substantially saved them money,” says Lance Jorgenson, self-proclaimed “Doctor of Storage Systems” with Jorgenson Material Handling. “…with this option, we’ve offered a better solution than them having to look into knocking down exterior walls and hiring contractors to expand the actual building, which is very expensive—and not all companies have the room to do that.”

Installing a mezzanine is super easy, efficient and fast. Basically, the structure is delivered with all of its parts pre-finished and ready to be assembled. Supporting columns are simply bolted to the ground, taking up as little floor space as possible, after which a series of beams are bolted to the columns and a flooring system is fastened on top. Mezzanines are specifically engineered to be strong, durable and ready to handle the wear and tear that comes with industrial storage.

We offer a variety of standard sizes, but mezzanines can be custom designed to fulfill your specific needs! A variety of accessories are also available that can be customized to fully meet your needs and ensure the safety and ease-of-use of your structure, including:

  • Flooring system options (composite resin board over corrugated steel deck, diamond plate over corrugated steel deck and open steel bar grating or galvanized steel bar grating)
  • Staircases
  • Swing gates, sliding gates, lift-out gates or diamond loading plates
  • Two-rail, three-rail or welded mesh handrails

“The options [we] offer with a mezzanine are usually half the cost of having to build a new parts department and having that construction going on,” Jorgenson says. “We can save a company substantial construction costs…and they also won’t have to deal with the mess of having a construction company tearing their building apart.”
