Consolidated Electrical Distributors, Inc. (CED) is one of the largest electrical suppliers in the United States with close to 600 locations. CED is able to provide customers with nearly any kind of electrical product in residential, commercial and industrial settings.
CED needed plenty of shelving space to store their many electrical products in a new distribution center. We had in the perfect shelving in mind but in order to help the company fully optimize their limited floor space, we suggested a shelving-supported mezzanine to provide them with double the storage capacity without any building additions.
Our work for CED required the installation of multiple, high-density shelving units configured to fully maximize their warehouse space. Rows of open shelving units consisted of two levels, we also installed a mezzanine to provide additional space and mezzanine stairs for safely accessing the inventory. We also installed aluminum catwalk flooring which would provide additional stability and additional safety with a slip-resistant surface.
CED and Royal Electric Supply needed more usable storage at three Utah locations without giving up the floor space required for daily receiving, picking and customer service. Each installation uses the building height differently, matching the structure to the inventory and workflow at that branch.
Across the Salt Lake City, Ogden and Tooele projects, Jorgenson combined mezzanines, modular office space, stairs, guardrail, catwalk flooring and high-density shelving into complete systems designed for practical access and long-term growth.
A freestanding steel mezzanine added an elevated storage level while a modular office created an enclosed workspace below. Stairs and guardrail provide safe access, and the open platform keeps active inventory close to the operation.
Shelving supports the upper storage level, turning one footprint into two organized picking areas. The open steel shelving, catwalk and stair system keep electrical parts visible and accessible on both levels.
Rows of shelving were configured above and below catwalk flooring to increase small-parts storage within the existing warehouse. The result provides dense, organized inventory positions without expanding the building footprint.
