Open shelving units deliver an exceptional strength to weight ratio that can manage both light to heavy-duty applications and can be moved easily. The back and sides are open for convenience when you need to locate items quickly and rigidity is supported by sway braces that keep the unit solid and supported. For customers who need a simple, general purpose shelving solution, this style offers the most basic and useful for a wide variety of uses. Open shelving comes in many different sizes, configurations with the flexibility to adjust, add shelving or accessories whenever needed.

Closed steel shelving is the preferred option for users that require an added layer of protection with the benefit of less dust and debris build-up. Solid steel panels cover all three sides and the interior contains any number of shelves or dividers for organization. Shelves are equipped with boltless clips for easy adjustments and shelving bin fronts, label holders and other metal shelving accessories can be added to expand storage potential. Lockable doors can also be added if greater security is needed.

Common customer questions

Questions about Industrial Shelving

These answers provide a starting point. Final equipment, capacity, layout and installation requirements must be confirmed for the specific facility and application.

What is the difference between shelving and pallet rack?

Shelving is normally designed for hand-loaded cartons, parts, records and supplies. Pallet rack is designed for palletized loads handled by lift equipment. Each has different capacities, dimensions and safety considerations.

When should I use open shelving, closed shelving or bins?

Open shelving provides visibility and access from multiple sides. Closed shelving helps separate and protect contents. Dividers, drawers and bins improve organization for smaller parts. Product size, security, dust control and picking method determine the best configuration.

Can shelving be customized for my space?

Many systems can be configured with different heights, widths, depths, shelf spacing, dividers, drawers, doors and work surfaces. Modular systems can make future reconfiguration easier as inventory and processes change.
